How We Test Accounting Software

We explain how we research, compare, and review accounting software so you can see what sits behind our recommendations.

What we evaluate

A useful review should help you make a decision, not simply repeat a vendor’s feature list. We focus on the areas that change the day-to-day bookkeeping experience.

Pricing

We separate promotional pricing from regular pricing and call out plan limits, add-ons, renewal costs, and regional differences when they matter.

Real workflows

Where we can test a product, we look at practical tasks such as invoicing, bank reconciliation, reporting, user access, integrations, and ecommerce bookkeeping.

Fit for the reader

We don’t treat one product as the right answer for everyone. We explain who benefits from a tool and where another option may make more sense.

Alternatives

For comparisons and buying guides, we explain the trade-offs instead of presenting every product as equally good.

How we use first-hand evidence

When we have access to a product, we prefer to support our analysis with screenshots, workflow notes, pricing checks, and practical examples. We distinguish what we tested from information supplied by the software company or published on its official site.

We won’t claim to have tested a feature we haven’t tested. If a detail can change by country, plan, integration, or promotion, we say so and encourage readers to verify the current terms before subscribing.

How we handle pricing and comparisons

Software pricing changes. For pricing guides, we identify the country or currency when it affects the answer, distinguish introductory offers from regular pricing, and tell readers when they should confirm the current price on the vendor’s site.

For comparisons, we look beyond feature checklists. The useful question is usually not “which software has more features?” but “which one fits this business and workflow better?”

Affiliate links and editorial independence

Some articles contain affiliate links. If you use one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That doesn’t change the standard we use for reviews: pricing, limitations, alternatives, and fit should be clear enough that you can make the decision yourself.
