Is Zoho Books Really Free?

Yes, with limits. The Free plan stays free while your revenue is $50K a year or less. It includes invoices, quotes, expenses, journals, bank reconciliation, recurring invoices, online payments, a customer portal, 1099 tracking and more than 50 reports.

The main thing it lacks is bank feeds. You import statements yourself, or move to Standard for automatic feeds. See my best free accounting software guide for how it compares with Wave and others.

How Zoho Books Compares as Your Team Grows

Yearly Cost By Team Size: For 3 People Zoho Books $180, Xero $708, Quickbooks $1,020; For 5 People Zoho $240, Xero $708, Quickbooks $1,680; For 10 People Zoho $390, Xero $708, Quickbooks $4,080
A year of Zoho Books, Xero and QuickBooks as your team grows. US prices, checked 2 November 2026.

This is where Zoho Books stands out. Three people on Standard cost $180 a year. Add 7 more users at $2.50 a month and 10 people still cost just $390, against $708 on Xero and $4,080 on QuickBooks Advanced.

Accountant’s tip

Check which plan you need, not just which users. If you need inventory or multi-currency, compare Professional ($480 a year) rather than Standard. That’s still well below Xero Established or QuickBooks Plus.

Zoho Books wins on price. Xero and QuickBooks win on how many accountants and apps already work with them. If your accountant uses Xero or QuickBooks, that can save more in fees than Zoho saves in subscriptions. See my Xero vs Zoho Books comparison.

My Verdict

Zoho Books is the best value full accounting software I know. The free plan is genuinely usable, Standard at $15 a month billed yearly covers most small businesses, and extra users cost almost nothing.

The trade-offs are fewer accountants who know it, and a smaller app ecosystem than Xero or QuickBooks. If those don’t worry you, it’s hard to beat on price.
